Meet the Tutor

Heather Thompson was born in Salisbury (now Harare), Zimbabwe, and moved to Ottawa, Canada, with her family when she was eleven years old. Heather attended Glashan Public School and Lisgar Collegiate Institute, where she was blessed to meet inspiring English teachers who fostered her love for reading and writing. Later, she attended the University of Ottawa, where she began to study for a degree in Linguistics, but soon realized that the lure of the English anthologies in the univeristy book store was irresistable. She went on to obtain her B.A. and M.A. in English Literature.

Heather taught English Literature at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy , a Catholic Liberal Arts college in Barry's Bay, Ontario, for two years, before returning to Ottawa where she worked for the Department of Indian Affairs as a Research Assistant. Always eager to learn new things, Heather completed Algonquin College's Baking and Pastry Arts certificate program in 2009 and started a home-based baking business, My Lady's Kitchen, which provides all kinds of tasty home-made treats to families across Ottawa. In Summer 2010, Heather became a regular blogger of The Luminous Heart and Quills and Candles. She also became a certified teacher for the Junior and Intermediate divisions with the Ontario College of Teachers. She is very excited to be returning to the teaching profession and is looking forward to exploring some of the great works of literature with you in the months ahead!
