Auditing

Although I do not recommend auditing as an option for a tutorial, I will accept students who wish to do so. What does it mean to audit a course? Basically, you agree to attend all online classes, do the readings, and contribute to class discussions and the class forum. However, you are not required to do the essays, timed writings, presentations, or other forms of assessment. Even if you choose to do them, you will not receive feedback, any formal assessments or the Certificate of Participation for your records and portfolios. Why do I not recommend this route? Caedmon Tutorials are designed to help each student develop the necessary skills he/she needs to become an effective, life-long learner. Much of the onus for learning, then, is placed in the hands of the student. The bulk of the work will be done on your own time. It is through the process of doing the assignments and receiving feedback on them that you will learn where your strengths and weaknesses lie. It is my belief that this exchange of knowledge is where most of the learning will take place. I think it would be a shame for you to miss out on this crucial aspect of the course. However, if you do choose the auditing option, the cost is $200 for the full course. Please note that the current registration form does not have auditing as an option. If you choose it, please make a note of your choice on the registration form and contact the tutor before the course starts.

Books

Please note that the cost of books is not included in the course fees. You should factor in about $100-$150 for books. I have tried to choose books which I believe would be an asset to you and/or your family's library. Please see course pages (syllabus) for links to the tutorial editions and translations of texts. From time to time, I will also provide poems and excerpts from various literary works via a PDF document at no extra cost. It is highly recommended that you use the same edition of the texts as I will be using. This will make class discussions and references to texts much easier!
